Scam information

This content is based on victim and potential victim accounts. Government agencies and legitimate business names and phone numbers are often used by scam artists to take advantage of people.

Description

I called the number that was "associated" with Geico to cancel my policy. When I explained this to the individual on the phone they said they would help me cancel the policy claim but wanted to send me a $100 gift card for my time that could be used at Walmart, Best Buy & Home Depot. They asked me for my banking routing number and some other information. This sounded fishy to me and I should have hung up the call right then and there, but I relented and gave them the information. They proceeded to give me a "verification number" in case we got disconnected, which we did. When I called back, the number given was a number to Direct TV. When I called back to the original number, the first person I talked to was a woman, and she promptly hung up the phone. When I called the number again, man named Melvin proceeded to tell me he had zero records of me caling the number. To which I gave him my name, and the phony "verification number" to which he continued to deny that i had contacted that number at all.
