Scam information

This content is based on victim and potential victim accounts. Government agencies and legitimate business names and phone numbers are often used by scam artists to take advantage of people.

Description

I was mailed a physical letter from SureGuard USA stating "FINAL NOTICE: IMMEDIATE RESPONSE NEEDED" regarding a recently purchased vehicle. The letter used scam and scare techniques, including "we have been trying to contact you and have not been able to regarding your vehicle's warranty". I did not request a warranty through a third party, and the letter uses aggressive language to threaten that "failure to call" "may result in a lapse of coverage". I got my warranty through the dealership, and this could be confusing to others who are not as knowledgeable, or where English is not their first language. The letter included a picture of clip-able insurance or warranty coverage cards, making it look official. When I called to ask to be removed from the mailing list, they said they would. Letter appeared with barcodes and said "official business" but did not have a mailing address or website listed, only a phone number.
