I received a home-warranty solicitation in the mail that I believe is deliberately deceptive. The letter is formatted to look like an urgent official notice from an existing service provider. It uses language implying that my “coverage” is expiring, that I have an account with the company, and that I may be responsible for costs if I do not respond immediately. None of this is true. The letter instructs me to call 1-888-404-4504 and is signed “Vicki Mercer, Program Director.” The company name only appears in extremely fine print in the lower corner as “4Ever Home Warranty.” No other clear identification is provided. I have never done business with this company. The letter strongly implies I am an existing customer with a delinquent or expiring account, uses panic-inducing language (“final attempt,” “lapse in coverage,” “you may be liable”), and resembles official mail from a company like a mortgage or insurance provider. This appears intentionally misleading and could easily confuse or frighten vulnerable consumers, especially seniors.
