This content is based on victim and potential victim accounts. Government agencies and legitimate business names and phone numbers are often used by scam artists to take advantage of people.
The caller said “This is 'Miss Lewis’. (spelling?) I was trying to reach you regarding an important matter of reviewing your supply charges for your Washington Gas statement. Please return my call at (540) 934-6003. Please have a statement ready to review. Your reference number is W200.” I’ve confirmed that this is not the phone number for Washington Gas. Also, an Internet search of this number doesn’t return any results.
