Description

The scammer creates a social media account impersonating a well-known Douglas Elliman agent using publicly available license information. The scammer advertises cheap (too good to be true) apartments or homes in social media. WhatsApp or scammers email contact or scammer's cell is listed in the bio and all posts. Victim contacts scammer: Scammer requests upfront deposit (typically a few hundred dollars). Victim sometimes requests proof of identity—scammer and provides publicly available license information. Victim pays scammer and scammer disappears—scam complete.
