Description

I was in a rush to set up an appointment to get my passport and I came to this website: https://passportvisa.org/ I was not paying too much attention, and it also looked very legit, even having steps for me to follow up with my city Postal Office to drop off documents needed, making me believe that was all I needed to do, since everything was already paid. When I got to the post office they told me there was no such a thing. I googled the website to make sure it was legit and the following information appeared: Passportvisa.org is not an official government website and has been the subject of numerous consumer complaints and warnings from the Better Business Bureau (BBB) and Federal Trade Commission (FTC). It is a third-party service that charges fees for services you can do for free through the official U.S. government channels. The website mimics official government sites with patriotic styling and asks for sensitive personal information, including Social Security numbers and credit card details. Users have reported paying between $60 and $88, expecting to receive official documents or have their applications processed, only to receive a basic PDF application form that is freely available from the U.S. Department of State website. I don`t understand how a known fraudulent website still up to take money and information from civilians. I was charged $119.00 dollars for no service, and gave away sensitive information, such as: social security, parents full name, credit card information and current address.
