Description

Guardio is a service that promises monitoring service against scammers and malicious websites. They offer a 5-day free trial (with a email warning when the trial is about to expire). During the signup for the free trial, they require your payment info, supposedly to make sure it's valid. They sent a charge to Paypal (my choice for payment) and within minutes refunded the charge back to PayPal. After exploring their app I decided I didn't like the service, and contacted their support email address to cancel. I didn't even use the free trial. The response from their support was I was on the trial period and no charges would be made unless I subscribed to their service. I replied I would not be subscribing, and that I wanted to cancel. Again I received an email from support at Guardio that I had only signed for the free trial and would not be charged unless I subscribed. I told them again I would not use the service and that I wanted to makw sure I was canceled and would not be charged. I received the same email as previous. I replied that I would uninstal their app from my phone, which I did. Today, (11/19/2025), I received a notification from PayPal that they had paid an invoice to Guardio for $119.88 on a reoccurring charge. I contacted both PayPal and Guardio to stop the charge. In the meantime, I received a fraud alert text from my bank, asking if I had authorized the charge from Guardio. When I replied no, the bank locked my credit card. I no longer have a credit card until the new one issued arrives in 2 weeks. So far, PayPal has said the issue is resolved, but all my emails to Guardio do not say that. I want to cancel my PayPal account, for several similar reasons but can not until Guardio cancels the reoccurring charge notification.
