Description

I responded to an online job posting titled “Hiring Team Members – Customer Service Assistance (Assist with Online Operations)” that offered flexible hours, daily pay of $160–$280, and no experience required. After applying, I was contacted via WhatsApp by someone named “Sophia,” claiming to be an HR advisor. She added me to a WhatsApp group and said she would guide me through “training” to perform simple online tasks, such as clicking or submitting reviews for gym-related items on a platform she provided. She gave me a username and password for a so-called “training account” and instructed me to complete “gears,” which she said were paid review tasks. After doing some, the system showed an “insufficient funds” error, and Sophia said this was normal for “reward gears.” She told me I needed to deposit my own money to continue. I sent $28 of my own money, believing it was a one-time deposit to unlock more tasks. When I tried to withdraw my earnings, I got a system error saying my password was wrong (it wasn’t). Sophia told me to reset my account, which erased my progress back to zero. She then claimed I could make even more money but needed to add $136 in credit to proceed. During this reset, she also instructed me to send my crypto wallet address, full name, phone number, and a photo of me holding my driver’s license “for verification.” At that point, it became clear this was an identity theft and financial scam. No legitimate job asks for deposits, ID photos, or crypto wallets for “training.” This was a fake employment scam designed to collect money and personal data under the pretense of online customer service work.
