I am a new indie author, and was looking for an anthology to join. I wanted to be able to publish my work. I was sent a contract and an invoice for $175. I signed the contract because the initial inspection and honestly lack of knowledge about contracts didn’t seem suspicious. Unfortunately after sending over money, I noticed flaws in the contract. It said I had two weeks to pull out, and when I messaged them to get a refund and pull out they are refusing to send my money back. They are using the contract to get money sent to them, and claiming it says they don’t have to refund it. What I didn’t notice is, they don’t have to use your work after you pay, don’t have a scheduled payout, and say that they don’t have to refund money even if I don’t participate at all. I’ll upload the contract they are using. You aren’t supposed to have to pay for submission of anthologies. They have a group of people that are pretending to be publishers, and leading authors to help with the scamming process. They aren’t licensed.
