Scam information

This content is based on victim and potential victim accounts. Government agencies and legitimate business names and phone numbers are often used by scam artists to take advantage of people.

Description

I received an email that was flagged as spam by Gmail. In this email I was invited to position my self-published book ('The Museum of Really Interesting Things') at the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books. I began to become suspicious as I read the email's description of my book. It sounded like an AI synopsis. I then noticed that the email was rife with grammatical and spelling errors. I began to do some research on "Mainspring Books" and found they have been associated with numerous scams involving selling high-priced promotional packages to self-published authors, packages that resulted in nothing.
