In preparation for moving to Hawaii, found an appropriate place to live. Was able to negotiate an agreement that supported my individual needs as an active duty service member, and proceeded to move forward with signing an agreement and sending a deposit ($4,000) to reserve the unit via direct deposit. In continued discussion, there was a request to send more money ($1584.10) for a renters insurance fee, tenancy id, and repairs and maintainence of the property. Upon requesting more information about the additional fee I was redirected to the same vague message multiple times. The fee was ultimately decreased and we were moving forward. The leasing agent requested funds be sent via paypal and provided an account with a name that was not the agent or the landlord, which I again questioned. Sufficient answers were not provided and at that point I requested a refund. The agent agreed, but then quickly stopped responding to texts/emails.
