This content is based on victim and potential victim accounts. Government agencies and legitimate business names and phone numbers are often used by scam artists to take advantage of people.
I received a flyer type of letter from Publishers Clearing House in the mail with a real check in the amount of $9,980.00. The flyer was not very sophisticated and seemed kind of blurry for a second Place winner prize of $2,500,000.00. (See the attached image.) Also, the envelope seemed haphazard with the stamp being set an inch from the edges and crooked, like it was done in a hurry. I set about trying to check the validity of the prize. After an hour of Internet seaches that all seemed to be true, I typed in 'Richie Jenkins' and found many scams alerts, including this site. My letter is identical to the one from Ohio except for the phone number and security code. The check is real and drawn from a real bank account at HSBC New York. Another red flag was that the company Ion Solar LLC (a legitimate company) is selling the address printed on the check.
