Description
It started when I applied to a graphic designer job via Behance. About a week later I heard back from the listing on the site. They just asked some follow-up questions. I answered them, then I was sent an email a day later asking to have a discussion on Slack. I thought it was going to be a video chat, but after I clicked the link we only had a conversation through messages. After a few days of chatting I was offered a job. It seemed normal at first, and the contract looked legitimate. The first day was doing some design work based on very detailed prompts, so I thought it was normal. I was never asked for any pay information or tax forms or any of that, though. Then a day in I was asked for a very strange request to send some files out to a client. The person I was chatting with said they had health concerns and couldn’t do it themselves. I said sure, but as I was gathering everything I needed to complete the task, they asked me if I could send a target gift card to the client as well. The more I asked for information, the more confusing the instructions got. I was told someone would come to my house to pick up the files and gift card, and I was asked to purchase two more gift cards. That’s when I decided to send Douglas an email through his gallery website, and when I asked this person on Slack to read the email, I was asked “why would I do that?” Their account was deactivated immediately after so I couldn’t report them on there.
