I received an email reply from a job offer I inquired about on LinkedIn. They informed me to send them my resume via email if I wished to apply for this position as a Customer Care Representative. So I sent them my resume, and they replied with this email: " We are pleased to extend an offer of employment for the position of Remote Customer Care Representative at CooperVision. After a thorough review of your application and credentials, our hiring team has unanimously decided that you would be a valuable addition to our team. Position: Remote Customer Care Representative Start Date: October 20, 2025 Working Hours: 10-40 hours weekly Salary: $45.50/hour Job Description: We are seeking a proactive, empathetic, and customer-focused Customer Care Representative to join our growing team. In this role, you will serve as the primary point of contact for customers, providing outstanding service and support across multiple channels. You will help ensure that every customer interaction reflects our company’s values of trust, respect, and excellence. All the required training will be provided to you before the starting date by our training partner. On the starting date for this position, a proficiency assessment task will be given to you to assess your performance. After this, a meeting will be scheduled with you to give you feedback on your performance and to sign all the necessary paperwork. This position requires the following equipment/tools: 1. Dedicated Computer 2. A licensed CSR application software for performing all the assigned tasks, monitoring, and reporting. The training and all the above-listed equipment are prerequisites for this position. A check for $4650 will be mailed to your address. This check is to be used for : 1. The purchase of the required equipment. 2. The training fees 3. Your first week compensation of $450 The order instruction will be forwarded to you when the check is deposited and cleared. Please send your full name as it should be on the check, a valid mobile number, and the address of where the check should be mailed to. You will be contacted via the mobile number provided. I wanted to let you know that due to unforeseen circumstances, we need to postpone your start date to November 3rd. I sincerely apologize for the short notice and any inconvenience this may cause. Also, I got the requested information. I will keep you posted with the USPS tracking number for the check. To ensure faster and more efficient communication, please send a text to my number: (443) 867-5641 introducing yourself. This will help facilitate smooth and efficient communication. Looking forward to hearing from you! Thank you. Arifa I Kazmi Senior Recruiter " ______________________________________- So I assume they are trying to get people to hand over personal info in order to send them a fake check made out to their names, and then instructs you to go and deposit it, and send them their cut of the money while you keep a portion of it for yourself. However, the check is fake so it will bounce within a day or two, leaving you the one responsible for the money that needs to be paid back to the bank.
