This content is based on victim and potential victim accounts. Government agencies and legitimate business names and phone numbers are often used by scam artists to take advantage of people.
I came across a Facebook ad for a small jewelry business that was supposedly run by an elderly Irish couple. The ad stated that they were sad to share that their son passed away and they were closing their handmade gold jewelry shop and that everything was on sale because they just wanted to spend time with their other sons. I decided to support them due to multiple comments on Facebook from people saying they bought from them and loved the jewelry. I now realize they were all just bots from the scammers. I bought 5 pairs of earrings for a total of $123, all advertised as real 14k gold at clearance price due to the closing. I never received an email confirmation so upon contacting them they were initially responsive and continued to pose as the elderly couple with so many orders to take care of and filled with grief. I asked for a tracking number because I didn’t receive one and they finally sent it which showed that the package was coming from China. When I received the products weeks later, they were the cheapest $2 earrings that you can buy on Aliexpress or SHEIN. I’m upset at myself for falling for the scam but when I tell you it was extremely deceptive, I feel for everyone who tries to be empathetic and gets tricked by these people.
