Description

I was approached about work on my roof/chimney, which I was aware needed done. I saw the group working on a roof down the street. I accepted a bid to replace some bricks on chimney and clean roof for $2,000. They needed to use my ladder which seemed odd. He went up to do some initial removal of brick and came down reporting a big problem with my chimney, and that the flue had partly broken and was incorrectly installed. He called his father the company owner who came and told me they could fix everything but now was $12,000. Since my chimney was broken open and I was leaving town in a few days, I agreed to the work. The young workers arrived in rental cars, which seemed odd - their truck was "broken" . So again using my ladder although they did bring a heavy duty pressure washer. They bought new things like a shovel and bucket which didn't seem right. They did do the work but the mortar does not appear to be a good job to me. At the completion, the owner came and remarked that the mortar of the cinderblock foundation needed work and I agreed to have a bid although I had no intention of pursuing. He instructed his son to diig down to check condition next to cinderblock foundation and immediately same as chimney story they found a "problem" they said would require jacking up the house and putting additional cinderblock where a stone supported some of the cinderblock. I told them house was 80 years old with no cracks and to please leave. They had 2 bags of brick rubble and a bucket and shovel they never returned to get. I attempted to take that stuff to their address and found there was no such business at that address. I paid a cash deposit, first $240 for the initial estimate, then $2,000 and remainder of 12k was paid by cashier check to Vogue Home Repair. In summary, they did do some work, perhaps caused more work to be needed and not sure of the quality of work and overcharged.
