Googled passport renewal and was led to this non-government unauthorized third-party website for online renewal of passport. However, was sent a PDF 'pack' including simulated government form for passport renewal, while promising non-existent insurance for lost or damaged passport for 2 years. Should have ensured authenticity by checking the website for web address ending with .gov when renewing online.
