This content is based on victim and potential victim accounts. Government agencies and legitimate business names and phone numbers are often used by scam artists to take advantage of people.
I was contacted by a person from phone number 1-541-253-7271 stating that he was Hector A Mancha with US Customs and Border Protection he said his badge number was CBP91364 and that I was suspected of drug trafficking. He stated that they were curious if I knew anything about a package that was shipped in my name from Mexico to San Antonio. He wanted to know if I had been to Texas but also that he believed that my ID had been stolen and it was being used to open bank accounts for criminal purposes. He said that there was a warrant for my arrest and that if I didn't "comply" that they would be getting in touch with the local police department to serve a warrant for my arrest. "Hector" then told me I'd be getting a call from a 915 area code number and I needed to answer the call because (I guess) it was going to be a superior of his calling me. I received a call from 1-915-465-6330 shortly there after and spoke to a man that gave me the name of Brandon Clark and he said he was with the OIG or Office of the Inspector General. "Brandon" reiterated several of the things that "Hector" stated but when I pressed him for additional details he said I was wasting his time and that he needed to get back to work. They knew my name, address, and seemed to know a few institutions where I banked.
