This content is based on victim and potential victim accounts. Government agencies and legitimate business names and phone numbers are often used by scam artists to take advantage of people.
I was told a payment from me through PayPal was "approved" to a specific individual. There was a 1-800 number to call to cancel. When I called the number, they informed me I needed to download something on my phone so they could see all of my information. They asked all about my banking habits, whether I have them on my phone, how much I have in my bank account, and other related questions. They informed me they needed access to my phone to find out what the hackers got hold of as I had been hacked. When I asked them why they couldn't cancel or stop the payment, I got no answer. Fortunately I was unable to give them access to my phone and ended up hanging up before giving them access. They never called me back, and they didn't ask me for my phone number to call me back if we got disconnected. I want others tk be aware of this scamming tactic. I deleted the message before taking any of the information down.
