This content is based on victim and potential victim accounts. Government agencies and legitimate business names and phone numbers are often used by scam artists to take advantage of people.
Was contacted regarding a remote position. They sent an email asking me to answer "interview questions" by email. Answered said questions by email. They sent a one page offer letter with minimal details. Research showed a sketchy website, minimal internet presence, and minimal staff. Their telephone number goes to voicemail. Today I received a check from "someone" at a hotel in Illinois via UPS for 9762 USD for "purchase of specialized equipment". I still have not received the usual employment package. As I was already past trusting these scammers, I contacted "Paige Kadaw", my "contact", and was told via email "proceed to deposit the funds into your financial institution so it can be processed, let us know once it is deposited". I have filed a case with UPS fraud department as the scammers do not use USPS since that subjects them to prosecution under Mail Fraud laws. I have gone radio silent with these people.
