Description
I would like to report information regarding a scam using the USPTO name. I recently filed a trademark for the name ******* with USPTO and received a call from the number +1 (571) 295-7704 in Vienna, VA. On the call, they stated that this was a federally monitored call from the USPTO. I mentioned that I had been told the USPTO would only communicate via email, and they sent me an email to my account, which I will provide screenshots of below. They stated that my trademark was approved and provided disclaimers, along with a fake trademark ID (********) and a legal reference number (************). Additionally, they mentioned the name Mark Roman and the employment ID CG1259. They claimed that this was a phone verification procedure required as part of the trademark process. They stated that this phone verification was the final step before approving the trademark. They collected my credit card information to make a charge of $575 for this trademark approval with the company name **** ******* and merchant details displayed as **** ******* Dayton USA. The fake email account claiming to be the USPTO was [email protected].
