I asked three or four roofing companies to quote on re-shingling my roof. Restore Roofing Solutions was one of the cheaper quotes ($4,000), and seemed friendly, so I engaged their services. They came and removed a lot of the old shingles. Then the rep (I think his name was Michael) came to tell me that the wood under the entire roof was rotten and needed to be replaced. The cost? $30,000.00. When I objected, he recalculated and said he could do it for $25,000. At this point I told him to stop work and leave. Then he said he could do it for $15,000. When I insisted he leave, he argued and argued and pleaded with me to let him do the work. Eventually they left, but not before accepting $3,000, an outrageous sum, for the "work" they already did. They left all the old shingles on my driveway and backyard. When I engaged a trustworthy roofer, they did the job without a peep about the state of the wood under the shingles, which, it turns out, was perfectly fine. One other odd thing. When it came time for me to pay the $3,000 to Restore Roofing Solutions, we agreed I would do an interac transfer directly from my bank to theirs. Then Michael texted me the email address to send the payment to, and it wasn't to the business, it was to a ******* name I'd never seen before. I confirmed the address with him -- he said it was a colleague -- and made the payment. About fifteen minutes later, one of the roof workers came to the door, and ******* *** ******* communicated with me that he was looking for the money. Apparently he was the one I had sent it to. After a bit of back and forth, and me showing him proof of the transaction, he accepted that the money had been paid and they all left.
