This content is based on victim and potential victim accounts. Government agencies and legitimate business names and phone numbers are often used by scam artists to take advantage of people.
I get weekly, if not daily from the same scam line under different phone numbers that call stating I am pre-qualified for a loan. I finally played along and the first individual who picks up will not give a name or any information regarding the "company" that has pre-approved my business. They just ask if they are speaking to a business owner and move on from there. They ask to verify my name, and I give them a fake one, and they "confirm it" like they had something to begin with. I did get transferred to Gustavo, who stated he was with Better Rise Capital. They wanted to know the name and kind of company I have, how much I would like the loan for, and how the funds would be used. I got bored and finally told them I'm just trying to drag this out as long as possible to avoid them trying to scam someone else for at least a few minutes. Previously, you could hit 9 on your phone and get a message of "You have been removed from our call list," but since they keep calling, that is obviously not the case. I spam-called them for about an hour once until they put my number on an auto-disconnect before I could get to an actual person again.
