I applied for a remote job for the company called Appen. I received an email shortly after saying that I was hired but needed to finish my profile first. They asked for ID, social security number, address, etc.. I gave them everything. After this I was told I needed to purchase an online course from Appen USA Academy to move onto the next step, which I also did. The “course” was $35.99 and only consisted of a few bulletin points with common sense information. The next step after purchasing a course was to contact an HR member. I tried to message HR multiple times but never got a response. I finally realized something sketchy was going on so I did some research. Turns out Appen USA Talent is posing as a company called Appen. I found quite a few people who have also fallen for this scam.
