Here is how the scam works: A person (often through Facebook Marketplace or similar platforms) claims to be "gifting" a high-value musical instrument (such as a piano or violin), saying it belonged to their or their sister's late husband. They say the instrument is free, but the recipient must cover shipping costs. The scammer claims the item is stored in a storage unit located at 1179 Fairview Dr Suite 103, Carson City, NV 89701 USA and will be shipped by a "moving company" – falsely using the name of a real moving company as a cover. They provide the scam phone number: (734)-236-9508 on the fake website Falcomovingllc.com. Victims are asked to pay for shipping using credit/debit card, Chime, Zelle, or other money transfer methods. They may also be told to provide a “reference ID” like B9CHC10HAR to verify the referral – another tactic to make the scam seem legitimate. Names being used in chat on Facebook Marketplace are Tammy Whiting, Email: [email protected] and Agnes Walker, Email: [email protected], Joyce Montgomery, Email: [email protected]. & Debbie Walker, Zelle Phone number: 281-932-9623
