Description
My elderly neighbor was contacted by phone and sold a home warranty policy. She is in her mid 90s and hard of hearing. When I pointed out to her by her credit card statement that she was getting charged $271.39 MONTHLY, she wanted to cancel as she thought that was a yearly charge. With her being hard of hearing, I dialed 888-421-5994 to talk to “Home Shield” and put the phone on speaker. I had to ask the name of the person answering… it was Emily. She stated that she would need her policy number or home phone number. I gave her the home phone number as my neighbor couldn’t find the one page “policy” they sent her. Miraculously, there is no policy under her phone number. When I tried to argue that with Emily, she got very snotty. She accused me of being the one that wanted to cancel the policy. She told me that my neighbor should call back from HER PHONE and tell them she wanted to cancel. When I tried to explain that we WERE on her phone and I had it on speaker and asked if she could speak to her. She kept saying “NO, YOU DONT UNDERSTAND!” Well, I understand perfectly! There was no way she was going to cancel that policy. She asked me twice if I was her POA. I said no, I am just her friend helping her as she has difficulty hearing. Snotty Emily hung up on me. I am now in the process of helping her dispute the charges with her credit card. I consider this elder abuse.
