After looking this up apparently this is a scam running rampant through Sacramento and local officials have warned against this group. I have received multiple letters in the mail about my water quality, a "package" waiting for me to pickup, or otherwise something encouraging me to call a number. I once tried calling the number to see what would happen. They tried to set up a time to have someone come into my house and test my water quality, making it sound urgent, routine, and necessary (unfortunately they list a different number to contact each time so I can't provide it). I hung up right as they were trying to get my personal info and set up a time to have them come out. Today, they came in-person to my house claiming that they are testing the water from all the houses on the street and needed to test mine. I asked if they were with the county, they did not confirm yes or no, instead they said they were with California. I asked for more info and they said California Efficiency Group while showing me a badge. They claimed they were finding up to 15 contaminants in the water on my street and needed to test mine. They made it sound like a required service that the state sent them out to do. I told them there have been a lot of scams around water testing and they insisted this was not a scam (of course). They said they could come in and test my water or I could bring some out to them. They also said they had sent a letter in the mail notifying me of this test. I have an issue with this company because they are continuously trying to make themselves appear as if their services are required, even connected to state government, and implying that if I didn't do this I could face exposure to contamination. They are using pushy and manipulative tactics. Reading stories from others, it appears that their end goal is to sell you a $20k water filtering system. Some people have let them into their house or ended up buying the filtering system due to the concern they raise. Apparently this is going on in other cities and states as well. Don't let anyone into your house unless it is planned or you know them. Scams are always evolving. Please spread the word so others know what to avoid.
