Description
On 7/29 I received a slew of 30+ emails for subscriptions to various Oklahoma and Kansas agency newsletters including FEMA, USDA, US Census Bureau, Medicare/Medicaid, Political etc. I then noticed a "loan" had been taken out in my name from WithU loans for the amount for $1,400.00. Upon researching and reaching out to this Lender, I filed a report to their "Fraud Department". I refused to give any personal information when asked and they sent me an email on how to proceed with the fraud report. I've since received emails of fake Loan and EFT Agreements with personal information of address and phone number that are over 10+ years old as well as a bank (for the loan deposit) that I do not recognize. I've also received emails of them stating there was a problem with my loan as follows: "We wanted to let you know that we ran into a problem while trying to deposit funds into your checking account. To resolve this issue, give us a call at 866-404-0674. We'll work to get you your money as soon as possible". This further verifies their information is incomplete or inaccurate. A soft inquiry shows on my credit report for this lender. No loan account or hard inquiries have populated. I have frozen all my credit as well as put fraud protection/alerts on my accounts. I believe WithU loans is acquiring personal information illegally, and is running a ruse to discombobulate users by signing them up for subscription newsletters and starting a fake loan account to get them to call and give actual updated personal information. I am not the only one that this has happened to. I plan to also file reports with CFPB and my local attorney generals office.
