I am submitting this complaint regarding a deceptive job listing posted by a company called Sky Land and Ocean Travel, which I found on [LinkedIn / other platform – edit as needed]. The job was advertised as a Remote Luxury Hotel & Resort Coordinator, listed as a full-time role with a competitive salary and performance-based bonuses. However, after expressing interest and receiving further information, I was informed that: • There is a required $89.99 fee to “get started,” which was not disclosed in the job posting. • The position is actually a commission-only 1099 independent contractor role, not a salaried job. • There are no guaranteed wages, benefits, or clients, despite the original listing indicating otherwise. • The “position” is part of a multi-level marketing (MLM) or travel agent recruitment scheme, masked as a legitimate employment opportunity. This constitutes false advertising and misrepresentation, which violates the Federal Trade Commission Act, 15 U.S. Code § 45, and potentially the FTC Business Opportunity Rule (16 CFR Part 437) due to the failure to provide: • Proper disclosures about costs • Earnings claims • Written legal terms prior to requesting payment Many job seekers, including myself, apply to such listings in good faith and invest time and personal information. Misleading listings like this create confusion, financial risk, and exploit vulnerable job seekers.
