Description
I was contacted with what appeared to be a job opportunity from Appen, a company I’m familiar with. After applying online, I received a message from someone claiming to be “Carla Gutierrez, HR Manager at Appen USA,” using the email address [email protected]. They invited me to interview and provided a Microsoft Teams link to communicate. At first, everything seemed legitimate. They asked for my full name, address, phone number, email, the position I applied for, and a referral name — all under the pretense of updating their records. However, I quickly realized this was a scam. The email domain @appenusatalent.com is not the official domain used by Appen. The real company uses @appen.com. After doing further research, I discovered that this was a common employment scam targeting people who apply for jobs online. Fortunately, I did not send any money or personal documents. But they were clearly trying to collect personal information, possibly to use for identity theft or future fraud. I am reporting this to help warn others. Scams like this prey on people looking for legitimate work-from-home jobs. They use names of real companies and even create fake HR profiles to appear trustworthy. They recieved my email, my full name, my address, my phone number, and my resume.
