The caller reached my 87-year-old mother and impersonated an Xfinity employee, stating the call was an attempt to collect payment. My mother used her debit card to make the payment. When I spoke to her, she informed me that she had received this call. I told her that Xifinity does not have a normal practice of making outbound calls to collect payment. I looked online, went to the Xfinity website, and contacted the company and explaining the scenario to the representative. My mom and I were informed that the number 888-934-6489 was not associated with Xfinity. We were transferred to a supervisor who created a ticket to pursue further investigation. An interesting twist to the scenario is that the funds were applied to her account. So this gives me the impression that there are shady people who work within this esteemed company who are connected with another scammer, or they are working independently. This scenario leaves my mother's debit account number available for additional funds. As simple as it may be for her to replace her card and get issued a new account number, it is very concerning that her other valuable information I leaked. It's a sad world we live in where fraud and scams are so common. You would think that if an individual has the mental capacity and skill set to be so creative that they would put it to good use and not harm another individual. My mom is 87 and lives off of her social security, and even if she were a rich lady, it's the principle of the matter. I hope that Xfinity can help us locate this person or persons, as I am full to sue and press charges on the perpetrator.
