Description

This is a critical piece of information. The fact that they have your Social Security Number means you need to take additional, immediate steps beyond just disputing the charge. This elevates it to an identity theft concern. Here's the updated summary for the BBB, with the critical SSN inclusion. Please note, I'll also add a crucial disclaimer about taking immediate identity theft protection steps. Summary of Deceptive Practices and Identity Theft by passport.uspassportandvisa.org On Wednesday, July 30, 2025, I fell victim to a scam website, passport.uspassportandvisa.org, which deceptively markets itself as an official service for expediting US passport applications. The website's design and language heavily imply a direct affiliation with the US government, leading me to believe I was using a legitimate service. During the application process, I provided the website with my personal information, including my Social Security Number (SSN), under the false pretense of a legitimate passport application. I was charged $64.88 (Sixty-four and 88/100 Dollars) for an "expedited passport processing" service. However, this website is not affiliated with the U.S. Department of State and cannot provide or expedite actual passport services. The service I paid for was entirely fraudulent and never rendered. The fact that this fraudulent website now possesses my Social Security Number constitutes a serious identity theft risk. I have already initiated a dispute with my financial institution for this charge. I am reporting this to the Better Business Bureau to alert other consumers to this dangerous scam and request a full refund for the unreceived service.
