This content is based on victim and potential victim accounts. Government agencies and legitimate business names and phone numbers are often used by scam artists to take advantage of people.
A solicitation arrived about a job opening on 7/19/2025 at 5:45 PM PT. They wanted to conduct an interview but asked that I create and log in to a Webex account. I am sure that once you log in to that account, they will set up a fake interview asking you to pay for a laptop and/or provide sensitive information. A Webex interview is not used by professional companies. Here is a sentence to be wary of as it contains misspellings: "We are hiring online candidates for the position of Strategy Consultant (Remote), who will eventually have a home office." This sentence is a giveaway that it is a scam. This is the note about Webex and the contact name: "The next step is to download the WebEx application and create a WebEx account. Once you've done so, kindly add me to your messaging list and extend an invitation to WebEx. You can add me using my WebEx email address, [email protected] Please use https://web.webex.com/" Please note there is a consulting firm with the name Guidehouse, but there is no legitimate contact information, which leads me to believe it may be a front or fake business. This is the McClean Virginia number for Guidehouse +1 571-633-1711. The website for careers at Guidehouse is https://guidehouse.com/careers. Notice the email address for the scammer contains jobs-guidehouse. There is a position at Guidehouse that matches the name closely with IT Strategy Consultant. There was no additional information provided on the job requirements or description, which is again another red flag. I sent a response email back asking for the LinkedIn profile for Earl and they returned the same email that I had received previously. This is a note from the legitimate Guidehouse website listed under any job requirement: All communication regarding recruitment for a Guidehouse position will be sent from Guidehouse email domains including @guidehouse.com or [email protected]. Correspondence received by an applicant from any other domain should be considered unauthorized and will not be honored by Guidehouse. Here is the text of the first contact email: Hello , Applicant mman31 (name removed) Thank you for your interest in joining Guidehouse Inc.
