Scam information

Description

I am submitting this complaint to report a highly suspicious text message I received after making a legitimate furniture purchase from Raymour & Flanigan. The message was the following: "Dear REDACTED, We appreciate your purchase from Raymour & Flanigan. To help ensure a smooth delivery, please follow this link to verify your transaction. https://rfla.raymourflanigan.com/REDACTED Thank you for choosing Raymour & Flanigan!" Upon following the link (but not submitting any information), I was asked to provide the following: Full Date of Birth (MM/DD/YYYY) Last 4 digits of my Social Security Number Full Billing Address Full Shipping Address Driver’s License Number This request raises serious red flags regarding identity theft and data privacy. At no point during my purchase was I informed that this level of personal information would be required for delivery or verification. I did not apply for financing, and this was a straightforward retail transaction. I have not submitted any information and have since contacted Raymour & Flanigan customer service directly for clarification. However, I am submitting this report so that: The BBB is made aware of this potentially fraudulent or irresponsible data collection practice. Consumers are protected from what may be a phishing scheme. Raymour & Flanigan can clarify if this communication was authorized or if their systems have been compromised. If this message was not sent by Raymour & Flanigan, I urge the company to take immediate action to notify affected customers and improve their communication security. If it was indeed a legitimate message, I believe their data collection practices are excessive, unjustified, and in need of review.
