I received a letter from a company calling itself the “Business Posting Department,” stating that I was required by federal law to pay $92.58 for a State & Federal Labor Law Poster. The document looked official and mentioned penalties of nearly $40,000 for non-compliance. It included my LLC’s name, address, and a “record ID#,” and urged a response by a specific date. It also had an enclosed return envelope addressed to “101 Middlesex Tpke Ste 6-374, Burlington, MA.” After researching, I found out this is a common type of scam targeting small businesses. The company uses fear tactics and legal-sounding language to pressure businesses into paying for posters that are either unnecessary or available for free or at a lower cost through official government sources. No actual government agency is involved in this mailing, and it appears designed to mislead and profit off new or unsuspecting business owners.
