Job Title: Business Relations Representative
Reports to: Business Relations Manager
Classification: Non-Exempt
Purpose: To establish new business relationships with business prospects for the purpose of qualifying them for accreditation. Consistently meet quality, productivity and sales targets.
Environment: The Better Business Bureau is a non-profit membership organization (501C6) and manages a Foundation (501c3) that provides for mediation services. The headquarters are located in Fresno with a branch office in Bakersfield, which services customers in 11 counties of the San Joaquin Valley and Inland Empire by providing reliability reports on companies and charities, advertising review and dispute resolution through conciliation, mediation and arbitration.
The following is a list of major duties and responsibilities for this position along with certain supportive duties. It is not all-inclusive. Other duties and responsibilities may be added as needed and in addition, management, as appropriate, may modify this job description.
Telephone Sales
- Contact screened business to qualify them for accreditation.
- Use prepared, approved scripts, objection tools, and closing techniques in discussion with prospective client businesses.
- Provide prospective companies with copy of code of Business Practices and Agreement for signature.
- Meet or exceed targets for call attempts, calls completed, orders closed, etc. as established by Manager.
- Refer any calls outside department guidelines to the appropriate department.
- Abide by the BBB Code of Ethical conduct in all activities.
Sales Documentation
- Accurately complete application forms in detail with required and supplemental information as needed to qualify business for accreditation.
- Accurately complete payment forms to accompany applications.
- Maintain performance tracking log as required by manager.
- Update systems and reporting tools in alignment with procedure regarding prospect and customer contact, follow-up, etc.
- Supply information such as disconnected phone numbers, questionable companies or updated information to the Department of Operations using BBB guidelines.
Supportive duties and responsibilities:
- Support other staff as needed.
Education/Experience
- High School Diploma/GED; AA/BA/BS Degree preferred.
- Minimum 6 months relevant sales/marketing experience.

Qualifications
- Computer proficient (Word and Outlook) and intranet/internet.
- Business-to-Business sales focus.
Physical Requirements
This position is performed in an office at a desk using phones and computer. Must be able to sit for long periods; see and greet visitors; listen and respond to requests professionally in person, by phone, email, or hard copy; and access data base. Able to enter data, track statistics and develop written reports. Some lifting, bending, stooping, stretching and reaching as needed to move supplies, files and materials. Regular attendance is essential.
Reps are requested to work in the office; however, working from a remote location on a full-time or part-time basis can be accommodated. This is subject to approval by management regarding an individual assessment.
