South Texas BBB Mary G Moad Awards

The BBB of South Texas announces a call for applicants for the 2024 Mary G. Moad Ethics Awards, which honors businesses and charities who demonstrate superior integrity, reliability, and trustworthiness.

The Awards are a self-nominating process open to all Accredited Businesses and Charities who have a physical location within the eight (8) counties served by BBB of South Texas are eligible to apply to receive a prestigious BBB Award.

Applicants provide written responses to five (5) questions on an entry form questionnaire. All applications are reviewed and receive a score from the UTRGV School of Business judges. No BBB staff or Board members are ever involved in the selection of the winners.

Not all applicants win an award, and winners are announced at a luncheon to be held on September 4, 2024.

There are three levels of awards – the Winner of Distinction, the Pinnacle Winner, and the Mary G. Moad Ethics Award (Top Honor).

These awards celebrate businesses in South Texas that embody corporate responsibility and always do what’s right for their customers. Honorees convey that upholding the ethical standards of the BBB is the hallmark of a successful business.

The 2023 Mary G. Moad Ethics Award was presented to Abygail T. Elizondo, Owner of Elizondo Financial Solutions. They care about their stakeholders and exercises ethics in its various decisions and operations. The customized care they provide for their clients, the flexibility they offer for work-life balance of their employees, the trust relationship they establish with doctors’ offices, and their sincere commitment to community are all remarkable.

The 2023 “Pinnacle Winner” was awarded to Martin Valladares, Owner of Vallrod Construction. They care for the well-being of their customers with urgent needs, the correlation meetings with employees and subcontractors to unite their goals through positive and encouraging communication, and several sponsorship and scholarship opportunities they provide for the community, all prove that the company does its best to exercise ethics in its various decisions and operations.

The 2023 “Winner of Distinction” was awarded to Dr. Jeffrey Alvarado DDS, Owner of The Lakes Family Dental. They consider the well-being of their patients and employees as a priority, and this is evidenced in the culture they created. They also have an ethics officer, which shows their commitment to ethics. The fundraising and sponsoring as well as free services provided to employees and other external stakeholders is great. They have a proactive system in place to create ethical and sustainable solutions for the future.
