Last June, we rented what was supposed be a beautiful Art ******* style house in ********, *******, Unfortunately, we were terribly disappointed. On our arrival, we discovered that the kitchen was below street level and therefore very dark. The ovens were very dirty, the owner's possessions everywhere (not only in the kitchen) Even worse, the only access to the kitchen were steep stairs without handrails (not shown or listed in the description). The dining area being on the upper floor made the situation even worse! The owner's immediate reaction to our notification that we could not stay was that he had all 5.0 reviews! At considerable cost and enormous stress, we were able to find other accommodations. We of course opened a dispute through Airbnb website and our journey with automated emails commenced. In fairness to the owner, we received about 1/3 of our fee (all from the owner nothing from Airbnb). We send our review where we stated our complaints about the property and mentioned that the person who welcomed us could not communicate well in French nor in English and therefore could not give us clear information. We received directly an email telling us that our review had been removed because of our violation of Airbnb nondiscriminatory policy (treating someone differently due to his origin) with a threat to block our account! We replied that we had only complained about the person's competence not his origin! The next day we received another email saying "Airbnb is always happy to have customers like you" Quite ironic, isn't it? Airbnb means "Buyer Beware"!A terrible experience! 0 star!Review from Doug A

Airbnb continues to advertise short term rentals in ************* ** that violates the counties ordinances. Airbnb's customer service department refuses connect anyone, not just me to the legal department for Airbnb and refuses to take down the listings that violate the ordinances.Review from Lisa W

NEVER take a booking credit instead of a refund from Airbnb when offered. I made that mistake, After a property was booked for our family vacation, taking weeks of discussion of where and when to stay, Airbnb canceled the booking without reason. We booked another property, and then again canceled without reason. My booking credit should have been used toward this booking, but since the booking was canceled, the "credit" remains in my account. I should have known better since I had had a previous booking canceled in 2021 just prior to my son's wedding. So this was pretty much 3 strikes against Airbnb and I attempted to get my booking credit refunded as I have no intention of booking with them again. After weeks of back and forth with an apparent call center in *****, they have refused to give my money back. I guess when you're a $77 billion business you don't have to care about your customers.Review from Alphonso F

To start, ***** is a trouble host. Also, Airbnb's reliability is questionable. I advise against booking with them. They charged my account when they shouldn't have several times, forcing me to get a new debit card to stop the charges. My host, *****, owned the Airbnb property in ****** where we stayed. Her driveway was in dire need of repair, with potholes larger than basketballs, raising concerns about tire damage and car alignment each time we approached the house. Furthermore, ******* refrigerator was outdated and frequently caused flooding in the kitchen, yet she declined to have it repaired. Additionally, the entire door of the refrigerator fell off when opened. The appliance also failed to cool properly due to the missing door and its old age. Additionally, ***** was an unsatisfactory host; despite paying to stay until the 14th, she requested we leave early without offering a refund. So, basically, she put us out and did not give us our money back. Lastly, the futon was so stained that we had to cover it just to sit down. It looked like it could have been human secretions. I cannot recommend using Airbnb or booking with ***** because Airbnb can't be trusted with anyone credit card number and ***** is a horrible and inconsiderate host. Just like the other post, if I could give them NO stars I would. Horible Business and ***** in ****** ** was a Horible host.Review from DeAnn D

Horrible company, they arnt helpful in any way all your issues have to be resolved with the host. I got an airbnb that had noisy upstairs neighboors, there so no sound barrier and they kept me and my dog awake until 2 am. Airbnb was demanding I leave the rental immediately at 12:00 am which no hotel would allow me to check in so late and I refused to sleep in my car so they refused me a refund for the nightmare airbnb I ended up paying over $200 for that I couldn't sleep or relax in. The host also refused to help in the matter with the exception of canceling the 2nd night I had booked and I only received a refund of $67.00 and I couldn't tell you what the heck that amount even was for since I paid $216.00 for 2 nights upon booking.Review from Debbie G

Airbnb FAILED! Wish I could give a 0 review!!!!!They are being very judgmental and assumptive and possibly discriminatory. We have tried several times to book a reservation for a house that is listed stating that it is 6000 ft. has 25 beds available or 40 people.Our reservation was for 16 people Airbnb keeps canceling our reservation stating that 16 people must mean youre having a party. We are not having a party. Were just having all of our family stay in one place for one night. Weve even been chatting with the host who knows how many people we have. They keep canceling our reservation and have totally ruined our plans. Even the host is upset with them. The host even suggested that we book under another Airbnb account, which we have tried and those are also cancelled. This totally sucks!!!!They have NO customer service, all they do is tell you they are escalating the issue and then we get automated emails.Review from Rita C

Airbnb does not care about guests safety and will make you pay extra, still delete you from their website with no refund with no prior notice, despite you having 47 good reviews. Whereas hosts can stay on the platform with over 4.0/5.0 star reviews, I cant be on the platform with 5/5.0 reviews from ******************************************** not wanting to get raped. I was then raped by a host on Airbnb. Theres articles revealing how Airbnb covers up **** and murder crimes on Airbnb.Review from Billie Jean B

Airbnb Failed Hosts, Guests, and Co-Hosts: A Cautionary Tale _Review:_I'm sharing my horrific experience with Airbnb to warn others. Despite my dedication to hosting, the company's neglect and disregard for safety, well-being, and fair treatment have left me traumatized._Electricity and fire hazards:_ ***************** box issues and electricians refusing to touch it due to fire risks._Guest comfort and safety:_- No hot water heater for 7 days over Christmas due to owner's cost concerns.- Railings removed from 2nd-floor balcony.- Downstairs floor ripped up from midnight to 6 a.m.- City-issued stop work order ignored._Unregistered guests and unsafe conditions:_- Underage guests (***** years old).- Babies and unregistered guests.- Blocked fire exits.- Yard destruction._Owner's exploitation:_- Denied fair payment (percentage of property).- Played both sides, prioritizing profits._Airbnb's indifference:_- Ignored repeated reports and concerns.- Failed to support hosts and co-hosts._Rating:_ 1/5 stars (only because I can't give 0)Review from Jeff S

I would not recommend using Airbnb. We booked in another state and believed we were booking in one area and when we put the address into our navigation it defaulted elsewhere. We believed it was simply mistake by the host but later learned the host was being nefarious with how the address was presented. We arrived at the location and learned that the area we were staying was had one of the highest crime in *****************. We felt so uncomfortable with the situation that we alerted the host we would be leaving. I called Airbnb to get a resolution providing all the screen shots of our interactions and were told nothing could be done. Then when we tried to provide others a review of what transpired the review was removed and according to the airbnb we now can't leave another review. Unfortunate that was the first time using airbnb and we will never use them again.
