BBB Reason for Ratings

BBB rating is based on 13 factors: Get the details about the factors considered.

Based on BBB files, this business has a BBB Rating of No Rating. The reason is as follows:
BBB requested the business clarify the nature of its business, but this information was not provided. In December 2012, Mentor Financial Group LLC submitted information to the BBB of Greater Maryland that their operations had recently moved to the Annapolis, Maryland area. This information was confirmed in several official communications with BBB of Greater Maryland, on the business' website, and documents submitted to the Maryland State Department of Assessment and Taxation. Upon reviewing the information provided by the company and their website, BBB developed a series of questions regarding the services provided by the business and several claims made in their advertising about their various real estate investment programs. The questions submitted to the company included requests for: *Clarification as to the 'type' of services offered *Information regarding whether the company engages in credit repair *Quantitative substantiation for several claims made in promotional videos on their website as to the 'success' of the program *Clarification as to the full amount of money a consumer must pay upfront in order to obtain all of the materials associated with the program *An explanation of their cancellation and/or refund policy *Information regarding the efforts taken by the company to ensure that all clients are fully informed of the risks and gambles associated with their program *Evidence that attendance to the free webinars is only available for 7 days and that there is limited seating More information about the specific advertising concerns can be seen in the 'Advertising Review' section of this report. The business initially refused to clarify this information. The business also submitted responses stating that their business had not relocated to Annapolis, Maryland. In March 2013, Mr. Peter Conti provided the following statement as a response to the Advertising Review conducted by BBB: "First off, please accept my apology for the delay in getting back to you. When we first received your request we were in the midst of restructuring the company turning it from a bricks and mortar business into an internet only based business. This has required a complete change up in staff and software, etc. (A) motorcycle accident... has slowed our restructuring down to a snail's pace. An important part of these changes are updating our website to reflect the current product offerings and remove all references to outdated products. Once I've recovered from the accident, and able to update the website, it will make more sense to address your questions at that time. " On April 5, 2013, in a phone conversation with BBB, Mr. Conti stated that the website would be modified to reflect the current product offerings in the next two weeks. He also stated that answers to BBB's questions and a summary of Mentor Financial Group's current products would be forthcoming. To date, BBB is waiting for answers to the clarifying questions and alterations to the website to reflect any changes to the business model or advertising. BBB will continue to monitor the company and their advertising, and will update this information accordingly.
