Educational Consumer Tips

Author: Better Business Bureau

Before signing a contract or doing business with a company, a consumer should understand his or her responsibilities, agreements and obligations as well as those of the business. Do not be pressured into signing an agreement, and confirm any verbal promises are in writing. Never sign a contract with sections left blank. If the contract includes a warranty, keep all documentation such as invoices, estimates and warranties, and determine who must be contacted to obtain warranty service. Include any deadline to deliver or perform. If a consumer is financing a contract, he or she should determine any obligation to continue to perform the contract whether financing is obtained or not. If a consumer is uncertain about any provision of a contract, obtain legal counsel or outside expertise prior to entering into the contract. CBBB Booklet: "Sales Contracts"
