April 5, 2023 ****** ***** was contracted by ** ******** ** ******** **** to provide and install an automated projection & sound system for our hall (**** **** ** ** Saskatoon). 80% of the $********* quote was pd & ****** was to have the project completed by June 14, 2023. He was given keys & a passcode for the bldg and made a couple of trips to “install” cabling. No equipment was delivered & ****** didn’t return calls, texts or emails abt the delay. In Dec, 2023 we had a lawyer track his home address and 2 members went to his home (no answer, but neighbours confirmed residence). Shortly after, ****** contacted our President, ** ******** & said he would install equipment in January,2024. January 8, 2024 he delivered some equipment and over the next 2 months began installation. March 28, 2024 the balance of the now increased total of $******** was pd. Over March & April ****** came occasionally to get the system working. May 3, 2024 we tried connecting ***** products, but they wouldn’t work with the system. May 21,2024 we met ****** and he was still unable to get the system to work. He assured us that it was only a minor “work around” required and we have the entire session recorded, with his answers to our questions. Since that meeting, he has not come to the hall or contacted us, in spite of repeated attempts to speak with him. June 6, 2024 we sent a registered letter to his home. It was never picked up and was returned June 26. Since June, the entire system does not work. We suspect ****** has remotely disabled it. In May, we researched the equipment at the hall by contacting manufacturers and suppliers to discover that ****** used discontinued, used equipment instead of the models that were contracted.

I purchased a ********* *** home security system from ****** *****/Ideal Environments in December 2020. This system cost between $1,500 to $2,000. This security system has two cameras that monitor my property for safety reasons. It has its own private NVR recording system and its own alert system which notifies my phone. This is a private operating system which small businesses (local Saskatoon restaurants have this system installed/monitored by ******) and home owners can have access to. It would be comparable to system that companies like *******, *****, **** ******** etc would offer. However, there are no monthly fees paid as you/I “own” the system and as a result seemed to be a better system as the owner had complete access to the NVR (recording system).

However, though a person (“me” in this case) “owns” the system-software/hardware, ****** *****/Ideal Environments has complete authority/control of the system. ****** is the “sole” administrator of my security system.

This means if anything goes wrong, if any adjustments need to be made, if any system errors in the hardware or software go wrong, if any software upgrades need to be done, if I get locked out of my own security system log in account that I own……****** *****/Ideal Environemnts is the ONLY one who can fix the problem as he has the exclusive “administrator” rights.

I was re-assured by ****** upon purchasing this security system if there were ANY problems, to contact him and he would come and fix them. There was no need for me to worry as I had his number for any problems. He would fix them and support the service of the system.

The issues started immediately after the install of the system in December 2020. Eventually, things were some what resolved though it took 4 months (April 2021) due to ****** being able to schedule me in. The system was never “just right” as it would set off false alarms/alerts due to the settings ****** had set. This was the most troublesome. As a single person living with a brain injury it was overwhelming to receive 100 false alerts a night on my phone. This could happen just by a snowflake falling in front of the camera. I have numerous text messages to support my efforts in getting things fixed. I was very patient.

Then, issues began again and again through out spring/summer of 2021. The system is setting off false alarms. I am being locked out of the system. There are software issues. I reach out to ****** again in Nov 2021. He came at one point in December to correct the system again and it still did not work properly, but I made due with what I had. There were ongoing false alerts.

The issues continued with my security system into 2022. It would take months for ****** to follow up with me. There are times I had no access to the system at all. ****** would reach out to his “rep” as there were software issues that arrangements had to be made so my system could be accessed. I was patient and accommodated his schedule every time. Things worked on and off. I was patient and lived with what worked.

December of 2022 was the last time ****** came to my home to yet again “fix” the ongoing issues with the system I had been experiencing. **Please know, ****** as the administrator is the only one who can fix any issues with the software or hardware.

Then, I reached out to ****** in February 2023 voicing my extreme disappointment in the lack of service that I was getting from him in regards to this system being purchased from his company. The system was still sending false alarms and I requested for him to come fix it.

No response after sending numerous emails as he asked to be emailed and not to text.

In March 2023 I asked him again to please come and adjust the system. I recently had installed a pool and needed the system to be able to alert me if anyone/my pets were to fall in. This was a VERY big concern for me. ****** did not respond.

Again, numerous emails and no response.

Then, I reached out again in October 2023. I emailed. I sent an email via his company website. I called him numerous times and left messages. I visited the office though no one was there. I have sent numerous text messages. The last text/communication was October 19, 2023.

It has been almost 1 year since my security system has not worked properly from the last service visit by ****** in December of last year.

The safety of my home, the occupants of my home have been left vulnerable due to his refusal in servicing the security system he sold me and told me he would keep up to date. I have been completely locked out of my security system since September 2023 as ****** as the administrator is the only one who has access to this. As a person living with a brain injury, my safety, my pets safety, the safety of my home and anyone who visits is completely being jeopardized. Please know that the original reason for the installation of this system was for my own safety as police had to be involved.

I had to default on my house insurance discount in October for a security system as it no longer works.

He has failed to uphold his agreement in providing the service to fix an expensive security system purchased from his company.

Please help in what capacity you can to resolve this complaint/issue.
