On July 20th 2024, at approximately 9:30AM, I boarded the bus. I was on the phone with a family member. Later, the bus driver stopped the bus, approached me and said that "I couldn't talk about that on the bus". He didn't want other people to hear me complaining. He then threatened to remove me from the bus, if I did not get off the phone right away.

He was insinuating that I was going to complain loudly as other passengers were going to board. I said he couldn't remove me from the bus for something I had not done. He ignored me and proceeded to tell me that he was going to remove me from the bus. Then, a woman on the bus turned her head to look at me and said: "shut the **** up". I asked the bus driver if he was going to remove her from the bus, for using profane language. He got off the bus.

I also got off the bus to insist that I had done nothing wrong, and he had no cause to remove me. Then suddenly, a young man came off the bus and proceeded to shout and scream at me, telling me to "shut the **** up", in front of the other passengers.

I called Maritime Bus. As I was speaking to them, the same person threatened to "punch me in the ******* face". I called the cops. They flagged the bus down near Hantsport. The bus driver spoke to them first, and then I spoke to them. They asked if I felt safe, and I said no, because of the threat. But I couldn't get off because I'd be stranded.

At the Dartmouth stop, the passenger proceeded to harass me, telling me that "he thought it was funny how even though I was the one to call the cops, that they also basically told me to shut the **** up.". He got off the bus and got all his luggage. I took his picture, but he saw me and came back on the bus and proceeded to assault me.

I sent a complaint to Maritime Bus and they completely dismissed me, which is why I'm writing this to BBB. Maritime Bus failed to remove a dangerous passenger and as a result, I was assaulted.

    Business Response

    Date: 20/08/2024

We have examined the situation, and I see two issues. First is a possible criminal one which you have reached out to the police, who will conduct their investigation. We are available for the police and their investigation. As of this day we have not been contacted by the police.

Second issue is a customer service issue. You were not at the correct stop and our response was to have the bus wait for you. That issue was resolved. You were approached by our driver due to your behavior resulting in disrupting the other passengers. You do not believe you were in the wrong. We stand by our driver's assessment of the situation. You were not removed from the bus; you chose to remain. We have provided you service. I realize you don't view the incident in the same way however we feel based on the information we received that this issue is closed.

Again, if there is a criminal investigation for the alleged assault that occurred in Dartmouth, we will of course respond to any questions from the police.

    Respectfully,

    ******* ******

    General Manager, Maritime Bus
