      I am extremely dissatisfied after my experience with Belair. Belair removed part of my coverage without my consent for my 2024-2025 renewal. I was extremely shocked when I got notice that Belair would be increasing my premium almost 25% for my 2025-2026 renewal WITH part of my original coverage omitted. I have no at fault claims, no driving convictions, no tickets, I am living in the same area, and driving the same car. No factors changed from my end. All the quotes that I received from other companies were $600-$1000 LESS per year vs Belair AND this is including MORE coverage. Needless to say, I have switched insurance companies and would NOT recommend Belair.

      Thank you for your concern.  Regarding your 2024-2025
      renewal, your policy was a part of the ******* Insurance conversion to
      belairdirect.  During this conversion we sent you a letter that indicated
      depending on your previous coverage with ******* Assurance Company (“*******”),
      there may be changes to your coverage limits and deductibles.  Certain
      coverages or endorsements may have been reduced/removed or enhanced/increased.
      The letter included a contact number to call and discuss the changes at your
      convenience.  Upon a review of your previous and most recent policy terms
      we have determined that no coverages were removed at the time of conversion for
      your policy.  Regarding your 2025-2026 renewal, your policy premium did
      increase.  When you contacted us about this you had already switched to
      another company.  The agent you spoke with had attempted to review your
      policy about the increase, you were not interested in reviewing at that
      time.  We have since reached out to you again to address any concerns that
      you have had with belairdirect and are happy to discuss this with you further
      at your convenience.

      ** *** ** **** **** ******** We were covered with ******* Insurance through ****** prior to Belair taking them over. Today, we had a transport truck drive past us on the highway and throw a rock at our **** ****** and shatter our moon roof. They said they will not cover it as we don’t have windshield coverage. Belair also said that we should’ve chased down the truck and got the license plate number - even though we were covered in glass from the roof exploding. It’s completely ridiculous. *** *********** **** **** ** ** ** *** **** ** ** ** **** * ***** ** * ******** ****  Their marketing is False Advertising! Very Poor Customer Service??

      We appreciate the customers comments regarding the concerns with the handling of the claim and how this has negatively affected the claims experience with us. It is our job to clearly explain the claims process to our customers in a prompt and approachable way. Intact strives to provide excellent customer service to all our clients.


      Under the policy, the customer holds a 13D endorsement. This endorsement removes coverages for glass except for certain perils. The loss described to the claims department does not trigger coverage under the endorsement and unfortunately, we are unable to consider proceeding with the claim. As there was no coverage, the intent of the adjuster was to determine if there was an at fault party that they may be able to pursue for their damages to assist the customer.

      Yes we know we have a 13D exemption. The problem is that Belair Direct acquired my previous policy underwritten by ******* Ins. and I was never contacted by ****** which is not a separate broker; they only represent Belair Direct(so they work in Belair’s best interest) we were not aware of what 13D actually encompasses. At no time were we ever contacted to make sure the policy was the same as what we originally took out years ago. Which ONLY excluded front windshield- not the moonroof. Consumers are not be being fully disclosed about their coverage when Insurance companies are being bought up by another company. I feel we are being duped by Insurance companies and there is no accountability to the client. ****** ** ******* ****** ** ******

      Several factors are considered when developing auto insurance premiums.  Those factors include driving history of all listed drivers, the vehicle insured, and how and where the vehicle is operated. The premium calculated for this client for this renewal term has included all these factors.

      Belair literally cancelled my insurance recently because a payment bounced - there wasn’t any option to pay it online afterwards. (I have been with this company for over 15 years through several name changes and never missed a payment). No call, no email. Just cancelled my insurance. Only reason I found out was cause I went online to change my address and saw that my insurance was actually cancelled. Called them and the guy was ****** and not helpful at all. This hasn’t been the first awful experience I’ve had with Belair in the last year (not the second or third experience either).

      Constant problem with the app. constantly receive texts telling me "Your trips are still not being recorded by auto merit on your app. This could impact your insurance price at renewal. Log in today and check your settings." I can't tell you how many times I have received this. I check my settings and nothing's changed. When I call in and after some time I'm told it was a glitch it's ok. Well it's not ok to continuously have this issue. And today - Easter Sunday I received the latest in the stream asking me to call in. What do you know? No one's there on a Sunday! Get your app together and stop sending me *********** texts.

      It appears the client is current using an older version
      of the automerit application which requires updating.

      The client has been invited to delete and reinstall the
      application to the updated version, this will prevent the client from receiving
      text notifications to contact belairdirect.

      It has also been recommended that the application be left
      running in the background to prevent any interruption of data collection, which
      would lead to automatic text messages being sent requiring the client log back
      into the application.

      The client has been provided with our contact number
      should she require additional assistance when reinstalling the automerit
      application.

      I was with Belair since i bought my house * ********** *** Scarborough, ON, in April 2020. I had some claims as I had sewage back up problems. Since I had problem so I had claims. But recently they sent me a letter saying policy cancelled. This is sad and very frustrating after staying with the company for 4/5 years. Not fair. I am having hard time to find insurance for my house. They could increase my premium or deductible but canceled is totally not agreed. Insurance companies should not do that at all. No one claims if there is no problems. And I believe we pay for the insurance for the accidents that are intentional. I want them to keep me as I never had a claim in the last 1 year as there is no problem.

      We reviewed the concerns shared from the client via email. Unfortunately, due to frequency of claims, we are unable to insure their property after their renewal,  April 15, 2025. The client has been referred to an affiliated brokerage for their insurance needs. We are unable to offer an extension while client seeks insurance elsewhere, as policy has already been lapsed.

      I recently switched from ** for my car insurance. I pay half the price for the same coverage and within 6 days of switching over I was in a no fault car accident. I kid you not when I say within hours I had approval *** *************, I had a rental the same day and every phone call I get the customer service has been through the roof. From the moment I even enquired about switching to this company I was explained every detail and every question answered with grace and willingness. ** ******* **** ******** ****** *** ********* ****** ****** **** ****** ********* **** **** ********* ******** I have been treated like a human a living being through everything it’s just amazing to see such great prices AND service!!!!

      Will never ever go with belairdirect again. Especially after the past month. Had 2 vehicles insured with them. Vehicles were purchased under business name. Asked them to change insurance to business name. Which they did. A few weeks later received phone call that they couldn't insure commercial vehicles. Asked me to find different insurance and that they would not charge me since it was their request. Changed to new insurers. Belairdirect charged me for one month anyway. ***** ***** **** *** **** ***** ****** Will also be canceling my home insurance with them.

      Upon review, the policy was bound in error as it was considered business/commercial usage.

      Our licensed sales agent reached out to the client, apologized and advised that they would need to find a new insurer.

      They were advised as well that we would cancel the policy on a pro rata basis and told them that they would not be charged with penalties.

      We advised the client of the call pull results and explained that the payment withdrawn was for the policy time on risk.

      ***** ******I've been going through a nightmare now for almost 9 months with a **** claims adjuster that thinks she is a plumber. I talked to a manager and was guaranteed I wouldn't deal with her anymore. Well i still had to and she is discounting a letter from a professional business with plumbers and closed my file without my authorization. I phoned again and spoke to someone that said she would call me..she has not as of 2 weeks. I phoned yet again early last week to speak to a manager and again no one has called. I will be cancelling my insurance as soon as it comes up for review again maybe sooner. ** **** ****** ** ** ****** ** *** ***** ** ***** ***** ******* ** ** ********** **** *** ******* **** **** *** *** **** **** *** **** **** **** *** ***** bad service *** **** ********** as they do not fulfill what you are paying for in your insurance policy when the time comes you have an issue. **** ***** ** *** ** **** ******** *** **** ***** **** ******** **** **** *** **** ********* I've never had such a horrible experience with any business ever. They took 25 years of my money ** ** ******* **** * ******** *** wanting what is due from my policy from my first claim ever. As soon as I put a claim in they also doubled my home insurance at their first chance. Be sure to look before your insurance comes up for renewal **** **** *** ****** ** ****

      Claims management has spoken to the customer on April 4th, 2025. They apologized if the customer has felt there was miscommunication surrounding her claim. Intact strives to provide excellent customer service to all their clients. The claims department has agreed to pay the outstanding invoices to avoid further delays. Payment will be made shortly.

      On February, 10, 2025, I changed my large wallet into Ultra Thin RFID blocking wallet. This was when I noticed I didn’t have the updated car insurance slip. I logged into BELAIRdirect ‘s app to print out the updated slips this was when I noticed my car insurance was cancelled. I was very upset with the company because I did not get any notice of cancelation, and I had been driving my car for a month without any insurance. For this reason, they had put me at high risk. I reached out to them to ask why didn’t they give me 30 days notice, I was told they sent the letter on November 29th, 2024. I have not received it to this day. I thought this was very irresponsible and unprofessional of them. I was so happy that I didn’t get in an accident. I had to stop driving my car because I didn’t have insurance, and it took me about 2 weeks to get the insurance. I found this very upsetting, inconvenient, and stressful.
      The reasons I’m writing this report is because i feel mistreated *** * ** *** **** ****** to go through what I went through.

      It was determined that the client’s concern was about
      not receiving a notification in regards to their policy renewal lapse.

      They’re unhappy that there were no other communication
      attempts such as email, text messages or phone calls made in reference to this
      issue.



      Based on the review that was made, we have sent a
      registered letter on November 29th 2024 which was more than a month
      prior to the policy lapse.

      Unfortunately, we’re not able to obtain the mail
      information as it was not available to us, which we think that the Postal
      Strike could have attributed to this too.



      It was decided to give an exception for a policy
      reinstatement and set the review for the policy renewal in 2026.

      We were about to offer this to the client, but they
      have disclosed that they have found a new insurer which their coverage started
      in February 21st 2025.

      We advised the client that they may still reach out to
      us for any questions or clarifications they may have about the policy, and
      apologized for the inconvenience.
