I visited Hearing Aid Source, an independently owned store located at *** ******* ******, Toronto, ON, after reading their website *** ******** ******* ******* Their site promotes professional hearing aid repairs, specialized technicians, brand-specific comprehensive repairs, and performance rejuvenation programs (****************.ca). Based on this, I expected thorough diagnostics and repair services.
However, my experience was extremely disappointing. I went there specifically to ask if my hearing aid could be repaired, and I was told no repairs could be done. Despite this, I was still charged $70 for them to simply glance at my device and swap a filter—no cleaning, no diagnostics, no adjustments, no repair beyond the filter change. I do not understand why this fee was applied when no actual repair or meaningful service was provided.
Adding to my frustration, after * ********* **** * ****** ****** ******* * ******** the store’s response implied that my expectation for actual repair service was “unreasonable.” This was not about expecting free service—it was about receiving the service they advertise and charge for. The disconnect between their website claims and what I received gives the impression that clients, especially ******* ** those unfamiliar with hearing aid options, ***** ** ****** ** ***********.
From my visit, it’s clear that their advertised repair services do not align with reality. Charging for a basic filter swap while promoting full-scale repairs ** **********. * **** ****** ******* *** ***** ** **** *** approach the store with realistic expectations about what services they will actually provide.

You are being unreasonable. Imagine that you ask a business to provide a service and to not expect to pay for their time and expertise. *** *** ****** ** ******* *** ******** **** **** *** ************  The facts are that you showed up with two inoperable hearing aids purchased from another hearing clinic. One of the devices was over 5 years old, which we cannot support, nor will the manufacturer. The other was out of warranty and had a microphone failure. This device was repairable at the manufacturer at a cost to you from the factory. We billed you for our time, diagnosis, which was far more extensive than you suggested, as well as our explanation to you regarding your two devices. You received everything that you asked for. You now come here and attempt to ******* us for $70? *** ****** ** ******* ** ******** *** **** ********** We help people hear their best all the time *** *** ******* ******* *****

And why would I ask you to clean an already broken hearing aid ?

Lastly, *** ****** ** ******* *** charging me a fee that you had clearly stated was not required. I also have the bill as proof that I was charged for cleaning.

Further to your additional comments, you clearly have no understanding of how problems are solved. Be it in a car or a hearing aid, some form of diagnostic must be performed so that the technician can understand the nature of the issue. In the case of a hearing aid, we must clean the parts and often replace parts so that we can understand what the situation is. You were billed for this service and given your options as to how to proceed if you wish. ** **** *** ** ******* ** *** ** **** lack of understanding of how things work. Good luck to you.
