    August 8, 2022 – Paid ***$ deposit to Lakehead to reserve space / to be applied towards tuition for the next class I register to.

    August 9, 2022 – Tried to register for a course for Fall 2022 and Winter 2022 semesters but everything was full – Tried to write the Program Head to ask for an exemption since I don’t have many courses left that I can take given I’m at the end of my degree and have medical restrictions.

    August 15, 2022 – Wrote to the Dean to see if she could help me get into a class. She confirmed the classes are small (20 people), and there was no space for me.

    August 15, 2022 – Wrote to Accounts Receivable to ask for a refund. They said it’s not refundable, despite my deposit not having been used towards what it was promised for.

    August 30, 2022 – Accounts escalated my request to Admissions.

    February 1, 2023 – Tried to get into the Summer 2023 semester, but the only class I could take was full.

    April 21, 2023 – I followed up on the escalation to Admissions on my refund request, but never received an answer from them, and instead, Accounts just repeated that they don’t refund.

    April 27, 2023 – BBB complaint filed as the deposit was not used as advertised towards saving me a space, or allowing me some way to get access to register to the courses I need (CRIM 2311 or CRIM 3370) so it can be applied towards tuition. It has been 3 semesters, so it’s unreasonable to not grant me a way to register for the courses I need or to not give me my money back by now.

    Deposits are non-refundable unless authorized by Admissions. Our office directed the student to contact that department as well as copied them on our reply. Currently this situation has been resolved and I will reach out to this student separately to confirm.
