They **** and make it your fault, because of the verbal policies they make up and then say are on the website. And say “thats their policy” no printed paper for the walk around or policy’s to be seen YOU NEED TO research *** yourself. Or take their word.
I didn’t know they required me to have commercial insurance, I’ve never had to buy it when using ******.
So they took $380.44 off my **** and I never even picked up the commercial van. But they took my reservation payment $400.00 rental + $380.00 insurance, and I left the store after being yelled at by the man behind the counter to GET OUT. I left after I heard them laugh abou a lady called complaining about how the chip they charged her $2000 for wasn’t on her video, and that’s why they have to do the walk around and use their eyes. So I said what’s the insurance policy?
AFTER your $4000.00 deductible they will cover the rest, that means if someone scratches your vehicle or a rock chip you’re paying 4 grand… you can get a new door for that price.
My KM allowance for the day was 25km and then $0.20 every KM after that, my destination was 48KM from the airport. I wasn’t allowed in Quebec or USA unless I pay an extra $140 a day. And that price changed with new people who walked in.
I sat and read through all the policy’s and they were making stuff up *** ***** ** **** **** ** **** **** After 3 hours of me sitting there trying to figure out how I wasn’t going to be getting $4000 taken away from me I was yelled at and told to leave then they kept all my money, and even E-mailing the company NO ONE is repaying me even my insurance I never used. It was embarrassing and frustrating. Then I had to be driven back to the airport that is 12 mins away so if you’re already in the store you feel obligated to comply and say okay because you’re in a hurry.
      Lucky I wasn’t that day. I’m so happy I didn’t use them. * ***** **** ******* *** **** ***** ***** ** *** ***** **** **** ** ***** *** **** **** ******* ** ****

We rented from Routes at ORD airport Chicago. We were charged an extra $78.37 on our 4 day rental for driving into Indiana. About 35 miles. I seen nothing about this until we hit the rental counter. If you go looking for it on the website, you can find it after a lot of looking. Talking with someone on the phone, it took awhile but they got me to the correct page for the policy. No other rental company has ever charged us extra to drive to Indiana. No women on the phone was no help. Just kept saying it is on the website. Did not care that we where unhappy. My other complaint was they did not have the car we reserved or anything chose. We got a Jeep. Very hard for my wife to get in and out of a Jeep. We will never rent from Routes again.

***** ******* Routes Car Rental is ********* *** dishonest. Our experience started with a LONG wait to get up to the rental counter. Once we got there, we discovered why the wait was so long: Routes Car Rental forces you to purchase their own rental insurance, literally DOUBLING the price of the rental. We've been renting cars for over thirty years, and have never once had a rental company require that we show them the policy for our auto insurance?!?!? The wait was so long because every customer was calling their insurance agent and/or looking up their policy online so they wouldn't have to purchase insurance from Routes. Even when we showed the agent our policy, they refused to accept that it was sufficient and wouldn't rent to us unless we bought their insurance for $50+ per day. This added $432.14 to the price of our rental, basically doubling it. What are you gonna do? The rental office is off-site (not in the airport), so I guess you could call a rideshare service to take you to another car rental company. Besides, everyone who prepaid for their rental through an internet booking agency (as we did) would have a tough time getting that money back. So, you're forced into buying their overpriced and unnecessary auto insurance. Keep in mind that this fee is completely hidden and not revealed until you arrive at the rental counter. Besides, why would you ever look for a fee like this, considering that I have never in my entire life heard of a car rental company forcing you to purchase insurance from them? Oh, and they also hit you with a $500 hold on your credit card - AND the car we were given had a rear door that wouldn't lock. Definitely will not ever use Routes again, *** **** ********** ****** **** ***** **** ** *****

In June 2024 ** ******* rented a **** from Routes in Denver. It was a great experience. The office had cars available when no other agency did. The process was quick and the car was great. We were thrilled!
That's why I decided to rent again in June 2025. When we arrived on the shuttle from the airport the building was packed. We waited in line for over an hour and 30 minutes. We had to purchase the extra insurance because I could not provide the declarations page of my insurance ( **** my insurance carrier had experienced a nation wide hack and their app was down and the agents could not print out the needed information). This was an extremely costly addition since we did not have to provide that information last year.
When I looked at the bill I realized that I had already paid $438.48 on my credit card through ******* but was only given $348 in credit for that amount on the final bill. I contacted the company via email to ask for a refund for at the very least the $90.38 difference between what I paid to ******* and what Routes gave me credit for on the bill. I received to responses from customer service and was told that nothing could be done. No apology either. I have reported the business to the PA and CO attorney generals and to the FTC.

“Mandatory” insurance is a ****. They charged me $377 because I did not have a copy of my hazard declarations page for my auto insurance. Honestly who carries around a copy of their hazard deck page? Ridiculous and I have asked for a refund
