I enrolled in this debt program over a year. At the beginning they would return phone calls and emails. Now when I have had questions about how much I have in trust there and why I’m still getting emails and phone calls they had gone silent. Won’t return emails or phone calls and I’m scared that I am being *******. I am a single mom and every penny counts. I signed up with them as I needed help with my debt and now I’m scared I have thrown a lot of money out the window that I could have been actually paying towards my debt with a company that would actually take care of it. I need answer if this is a legit company and if it isn’t I want my money back!!!

    Gem Debt Law Response

    16/09/2023

The Gem Debt Law team consists of Lawyers, Licensed Paralegals and Chartered Accountants. We are in fact licensed to do debt relief settlements. We negotiate with creditors on our clients' behalf every day and frequently obtain debt settlements for less than the balances owing. We do often achieve debt reductions for our clients between 60% to 80%, both within insolvency proceedings (bankruptcy, consumer proposal and division 1 proposal) and alternatively, by negotiating with creditors during civil proceedings, as well as outside of the Court and also, prior to any litigation. Insolvency Trustees cannot negotiate debt settlements with creditors outside of an insolvency proceeding (bankruptcy, consumer proposal and division 1 proposal). Gem Debt Law fills this gap by enabling indebted consumers and business owners to eliminate their debts with creditors, in an affordable way, without resorting to insolvency, such as bankruptcy, consumer proposal or division 1 proposal. This way, our clients avoid the consequences of bankruptcy, consumer proposal and division 1 proposal, i.e., you must surrender credit cards for five (5) years, it stays on your credit report for 8 years, you cannot obtain new credit or loans for five (5) years, etc... Also, before filing a consumer proposal, division 1 proposal, or bankruptcy, consider the following: FACT: Trustees are paid a percentage of what the debtor must pay to the creditors; therefore, the more money the debtor pays in their consumer proposal for example, the more money the Trustee earns as income. FACT: In bankruptcy, the Trustee administers the debtor’s estate for the benefit of their unsecured creditors. (In other words, the Trustee has an obligation to reimburse the debtor’s creditors appropriately. Therefore, the Trustee is not acting solely for the benefit of the debtor…) Find out more about the services offered by Gem Debt Law and meet the dedicated and proud people who form the Gem Debt Law team. We encourage you to visit our website, www.debtlaw.ca and contact us if you have questions. We have people at our office during regular business hours who can take your call. We have a zero-tolerance policy against abusive behaviour.
