I hired ******* Little to complete some deck repairs. I have attempted to provide details but this allows 2000 characters.

Little Contracting was hired to complete repairs on my deck and he left me with a unsafe deck that has to be completely torn down.

Is there a way I can provide more info? I'm unable to load anymore photos.

    Hi *****,

Thank you for your message through BBB. I have tried to reach out to you numerous times to see the areas that you are talking about, however, you would not respond and the last email I received from you, you asked me to not message you again to discuss this matter.

We do not take advantage of any one of our clients, therefore, we never ask for money up front.

I have spoken to multiple people regarding the deck/stairs and they agreed everything that I did was correct as you did not want sonotubes. I mentioned sonotubes to you numerous times and you denied wanting them. You have not paid your amount for labor or materials for this project and stated you wouldn’t be. (Amount of $3514.98).

I will refund you for the stairs project completed back in November for the labor part as you are not happy with them. However, every time I left the project you were happy both times and denied any problems. I would’ve loved to have this conversation in person.

I will send the e-transfer to the email I have.

    Thanks,
    *******

I am rejecting this response because:

    in a text message.

    7. There are sections of the deck where you reused my old materials not new material. Much of the wood is split. There are spots where you glued the split boards back together to hide the issue. These should have been replaced not glued. Where you did replace boards that were damaged, you replaced a portion of the board, not the whole board, most were 12 inch sections you cut out and put back in. This is not acceptable as it would not be structurally safe.

     8. The main support beam was cut short and does not fully cover the full width of the deck. The deck is resting on the middle joist and not all three as per building code. where there is 6x6 posts they are crooked and not lined up therefore the deck weight is distributed unevenly. One of the 6x6 posts in the corner is not to code, it isn't attached to the house and does not have proper footings, the cement block and patio stone is not code when a deck is higher than 2 ft. There are patio stones that you put the cement block footings on that are not level with the ground and to fill the holes you stuffed rocks in.

    9. you removed a board on the front of the deck and advised it was wet and starting to rot, I asked you not to put it back so it would dry and you reinstalled it anyway and attached with a lag bolt.

    10. You stated in your previous email that you think we discussed concrete sono tubes which is not a fact. We discussed screw piles and you advised they are not required, which is incorrect.

When I questioned if cement block and patio stone footings were ok, you said yes, after research and asking professional advice I have found that you are incorrect and it should have been screw piles or sonotubes.

    11. The board that is the ledger board or is attached to the ledger board is warped and it is not against the house at the one end. There also doesn't appear to be flashing installed.

My deck has to be fully removed and rebuilt due to the errors in the work. This is going to cost me out of pocket due to your negligence.

    Hi Lynda,

We did discuss sonotubes and you the 6x6 beam is to support as you did not want it attached to your house. I’m very confused as to why you’re saying you paid for old material as you haven’t paid for anything, except the material from November that has been on your deck for the last 7 months and has been sturdy. You wanted to use old material that was still good to cut down on the cost of material. You were only charged for material that was bought for the project in November. You have accepted the etransfer of the money we provided you for the labor costs on the stairs project completed in November ($1380) today and you did not pay for this project ($3514.98).  Total being $4984.98 that we are out. We have paid for the material for this project that you currently have. I have proof on my credit card of everything bought got your project through ********* ****.

I understand that you are not happy with the project, however, you have not been charged as you did not pay anything. We have pictures of the work we completed and  again have shown people and they agree with everything we did. I hope you find a contractor who you are happy with.

    Thanks,

     Better Business Bureau:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID 23510431, and find that this resolution is not satisfactory to me however, there isn't any other avenue except Small Claims Court for my loss.

Expensive lesson I've learned.  I hope this complaint is public so no other consumer is taken advantage of.
