The qoute for the contract to repair the chimney is dated September 15, 2023. Vaughn ****** said that he would start mid October, which he started around the 20th of October. This is now almost the middle of December and still not finished. Not only is it not finished but also not properly done. The crown of the chimney was put there by his two workers that are not even qualified masons. The crown is supposed to be reinforced with metal mash or rear. This was not done. The side of the chimney that was being built up was only brought up to less than 1 inch above the crown. When I complained to his workers saying it was too low they returned the next day and added a piece of tile approx. 6 inches high. It was put on the top with what it appears to be caulking and very roughly done. This is a safety issue as when it breaks away it could seriously hurt or kill someone. Inside the liner as the picture will show there is a build up of cement protruding out approx. 1 inch. which will collect soot and tar. This can cause chimney fires. The chimney was supposed to be built up as high as was the existing before. The tiles on top of the chimneys do not match on height. I paid $3162.50 as first installment. I am not willing to pay anymore until the work properly completed.

    Business Response

    Date: 18/12/2023

In response to Mr. ********* letter I did agree to start Mr. ********* job which I had a problem with manpower like everybody does. I relayed that to Mr. ******* and told him that I would give him his money back that he had gave me for materials because I didn’t think I could finish the job, but he said he could find me manpower and did find me a man so I started the job ended up not being able to complete it because the manpower left after a couple of days I was able to get a couple of other guys to help me finish his job  meanwhile I was suffering with my health I didn’t know what was going on but ended up in the hospital with double pneumonia, but did manage to complete all the brickwork and all the brickwork was done by me he was right my guys weren’t qualified to do any brickwork the Concrete top that he  has made issue with having no rebar or mesh that’s because in accordance with the national building code I am allowed to use an extra strength concrete with fibre mesh, so rebar or mesh isn’t needed and still to all codes and requirements he talks about the Liners, not being in line well, according to the national building code, you were given an allowance of 3/4 of an inch  of lipping because the liners do not meet the same size requirements as old ones that’s why the allowance is made and I was there to supervise all aspects of cleanup and pouring the Top the Liner . He complains about was adjusted with an approved masonry adhesive mr. ******* would never ask me anything he just hung around when He thought I wasn’t there just A buzzard just ready to pick a carcass to death all things done are all code and requirements in accordance to Building code and local requirements. Mr. ******* Has a problem of paying his bills that he’s agreed-upon. I have checked with a couple of other contractors he’s dealt with, and they all gave me the same prognosis that he just tries to chisel the price down by trying to look for something that he thinks are wrong! I’ve never had a problem or a complaint in over 35 years of being in this business I have never changed my professionalism that’s why you guys have never heard my name through your business before this some people you could never please I’ve always tried to have satisfaction guaranteed mr. ******* is just a man that won’t be pleased. That’s why I hung up on him when I tried to explain to him when he called with his nonsense of looking for something that wasn’t there I want the Better Business Bureau to know I’ve always done my work or made sure my work was done to all the local codes  and national building code requirements no different than this job. That’s why Mr. ******* never came to me with any of the issues until it was time to pay the rest of my money. He can keep I just want my reputation not to be Black marked by one man that’s just looking for a reason to ruin a person reputation just to try to save some money! And I’m sorry I didn’t check him out before I worked for him because trust is something in this world that has become nonexistent! That is the reason I’m sorry that I did end up sick and tried to do his job and be there which ended up putting me in the hospital for a week with a double lung infection pneumonia and I can give letters as long as they can stay anonymous for the contractors that had to take less money so they could get some money from Mr ******* and I use that term loosely ! Thanks Vaughn P ****** ????

    Customer Answer

    Date: 21/12/2023

I am rejecting this response because:

Mr. ****** never stated he was not able to start the job. He promised he would start the middle of October. He never once offered to give me any money back. This and along with the rest of his response is complete lie. He did call me and ask if I could get a helper which. The reason why the worker did not come back is because Mr.****** did not pay him right away. When the worker approached him for money days later he threw the money at him and t*** *** ** ***** **** I have been told by other worker that he had hired that he still owes him $300 and he never been paid.

Mr.****** did not do the last part of the chimney as he states. This was done by his 2 workers. There was no wire, metal or Fibre mesh used in the crown of the chimney. He was not even on site when the crown of the chimney was poured.

I will be requesting the two contractors names who say I never pay or as Mr. ****** puts it , chisel money of the people. I have paid everyone who works for me and I have an outstanding history of paying. I have contacted a lawyer to deal with this issue because I will not be lied about and my name put down by Mr. Martin. I am forwarding you an email that Mr. ****** sent to me suggesting that when he sees me it will be unpleasant for me. I do not accept that kind of threat. I have wife and 2 small children to thin about therefore I have contacted the RCMP to be aware that Mr. ****** might be capable of doing me harm. I was told they are only a phone away if Mr. ****** shows up.

I have already had a company come to fix part of chimney that was ready to fall off. It was properly installed. I have also contacted another company to fix the chimney. I am unable to use the chimney until I know it is done properly. I had asked originally that I wanted the chimney done properly by Mr.****** but by seeing  this is a safety issueto me and our property this is not possible.

This has been the most stressful and unproductive company I have ever dealt with. The poor quality work, no professional skills dealing with the public or problems leads me to believe this is the worst company I have to deal with.

Please advice everyone this is the company not to hire I don't want else to have to go through what has transpired at my place tha last 2 months.
