I am writing to file a formal complaint against Daoud Contracting and the owner named Anthony ***** and his associate Igor, whose services I hired for a bathroom renovation project. Unfortunately, my experience with this contractor has been extremely negative, marked by unprofessionalism, poor workmanship, additional unforeseen expenses, health hazards, property damage, and ultimately abandonment of the job.
    Company name: Daoud Contracting
    ****** ***** ******* ***** ***** ******** ************ *** **** ** *** *** ****** ******************* ******** *** ** ***** ***** ********* *** *** *** ******** ***** ****************************************************** **** ***** *****************************************************
    Summary of Events:
Anthony persistently contacted me — up to five times daily — to secure this job. He provided an attractive quote and emphasized his experience and ability to complete the work flawlessly. We agreed via email on a full bathroom renovation, including demolition of the existing tub, tile, and surround; new waterproofing, tile installation, tub, fixtures, and fan installation.
I paid Anthony a deposit of $***, then personally purchased materials at **** ***** using my own credit card, deducting this from the agreed-upon upfront payment. He insisted the remaining $*** be paid in cash, ***** * *** ******* *** ** ***** * ***** *****. Anthony stated the job would take no more than five days, but this was not the case.
    ________________________________________
    Issues Encountered:
    Unprofessional Behavior:
Anthony and his crew repeatedly disrespected my property — they refused to remove their shoes, smoked cigarettes on-site, discarded butts in my yard and the street, and brought cigarette containers indoors, making my home smell strongly of smoke.
    Unexpected Charges:
I was required to pay an additional $*** for insulation, vapour barrier, caulking, and labor after they discovered damaged insulation.
    Plumbing Errors:
The crew turned off my water supply for over two days and flooded my basement bathroom due to incorrect fittings. They constantly disrupted my workday, asking for help with plumbing and other tasks they should have managed independently.
    Material and Installation Mistakes:
They initially purchased the wrong tub (incorrect drain orientation), cracked it during installation, and improperly set plumbing at the wrong height, causing further delays and water shutoff.
    Substandard Tile Work:
The tiles were installed unevenly with inconsistent thin-set thickness (ranging from ½ inch to 1½ inches). Tile edges were dangerously sharp, and they used black caulking to cover defects. When I expressed concerns, they became defensive and insisted their work was perfect.
    Health and Safety Hazards:
I discovered they were cutting tiles inside my home without proper containment, filling the house with hazardous dust. This caused respiratory issues for my daughter and me. I had to pay $****** for professional duct cleaning and deep-clean my home to remove the dust. I also had to install protective vapor barriers myself — something they neglected to do.
    Persistent Negligence and Damage:
Despite assurances to fix the issues, their workmanship remained unacceptable. Additional problems included:
    • Chipped brand-new tub in two places
    • Chipped my vanity countertop
    • Broken window screen
    • Clogged bathroom drains with construction debris
    • Abandoned old bathtub and large quantities of construction scrap left scattered in my yard, which I now must arrange to have removed at my own expense
Throughout the project, I had to guide their worker Igor (*** ***** ****** *******) on basic tiling techniques, using translation apps and instructional videos. Anthony, the contractor, was largely absent during critical stages.

    Final Outcome:
After weeks of poor-quality work and property damage, Anthony stopped communicating, ******* claimed I had not paid him, and refused to complete the job or provide compensation. He sent ********* messages in an attempt to absolve himself of responsibility, while leaving my home and property in disarray — including the abandoned bathtub and construction debris left outdoors.

    Conclusion:
    This contractor's behavior was not only unprofessional but also posed serious health and safety risks to my family and home. * ** ******* ** ******** ******** **** ******** **** *** ****** ******** ****** ** **** ****** *** ****** *********** **********. Business Response

    Date: 15/04/2025

I would like to thank you for giving me the opportunity to respond and for taking the time to listen to my side of the story.

I have submitted photos taken by him on his own phone showing the condition of the bathroom before the work was done. I also provided zoomed-in images clearly showing that certain parts — such as the crack he is blaming me for, and the frame around the window (which was hidden behind the curtain) — were already broken prior to my involvement.
And the door on the top is already broken before starting the Job ** ** ***** ** *** ***** *** I have also a video send by Corstin it shows all condition the bathroom before starting .

I would like to clarify that I did not purchase any of the bathroom materials, he bought everything himself using his credit card. I simply asked for his help to replace the broken part since it was under his name and card. His response was that he didn’t have time and that his hourly rate is $**, and suggested I buy a new one myself. I explained to him that I couldn’t afford to, and he refused to assist me financially.

I will also be providing receipts and proof of all the payments I made. I want to emphasize that I did not receive a single dollar from him and that I personally worked on his bathroom for free. I never charged him for my labor. I completed the job and left. When problems started to arise between us, I simply walked away — I did not cause trouble or demand payment.

the total receipt I showed is ******* Dollars I paid for the Project

Corstin paid me e transfer *** Dollars

and another e transfer *** Dollars

total *** Dollars for my self and he bought materials by his card from **** ***** **** ******* *

What’s happening now is unfair. He is trying to make me replace things that were already broken in his home. * **** *** **** ****** *** ****** *** *** ********* *** ********** **** * ** ***** ******* ******. I did my work honestly and did not benefit financially from this situation in any way.

    Business Response

    Date: 15/04/2025

I am writing to formally clarify my position regarding the complaint made against me

We agreed on a bathroom renovation project totaling $****** with an initial payment to cover materials and the remainder due upon completion. The client specifically requested all details to be confirmed by email, including selected materials and photos. I complied with this request and provided everything in writing.

After he sent a $*** deposit, he called and explained that he didn’t have enough funds to cover all the materials and asked if I could help by purchasing them using his **** ***** credit card. I agreed, although it was not my responsibility.

He also requested to change one of the pre-selected items for a more expensive option, costing $*** more. I didn’t charge him the difference to avoid delays or disputes.
Corstin supposed to pay me *** Dollars
But he paid me *** Only e transfer reducing *** dollars from the original quote .

He then asked me to install a ceiling fan, which was not part of the original agreement, but I agreed to do it free of charge. This too is documented via email that the fan is free of charge .

While working, we encountered an issue with the external wall. I advised him that the correct solution required external repair However, he insisted, ******* ***** **** ** ******* *** **** **** ** ** ******* ******* *** ******* *** ***** ******** I clearly told him this wasn’t the right approach, but he refused to invest in the proper fix, so I followed his instruction.

Later, after I completed the work, he sent me a message on WhatsApp with a screenshot from Google, saying that excessive thickness in tiling wasn’t acceptable and that we should redo it. ** ********* **** *** ****** **** ** ********* ***** ***** *** *** ******. This confirmed exactly what I had told him earlier that it wasn’t the correct way to do it from the start. I still have that message as evidence.

Again, I fixed it by buying tiles and Mud from my pocket

The next day he called me and said we needed to do some cleaning because of the dust and tiles. I told him, “Of course, this is a renovation project, and it’s normal to have some dust after the work.”
He told me he would hire someone to clean and that it would cost $***, and that he wanted to deduct that from what he owed me. I said, “No problem, go ahead and deduct it.”
But the next day, he called me again and told me the cleaning cost $****
I told him, “No, you told me $***. I’m only willing to pay $***, you should cover the rest.”
He replied, “If that’s the case, pack your tools and leave.”
At that point, I had already spent over $**** from my own pocket on this project, and I still hadn’t been paid. He knew that, and I have all the evidence.

So I thought, I can’t just walk away and lose everything, so I told him, “Okay, go ahead and deduct it,” and he agreed to deduct the $*** from the payment.

After I finished redoing the wall, he noticed there was about 60 cm left to reach the ceiling. He asked me if I could patch or paint the area. I told him clearly that doing that would require an additional charge because it wasn’t part of our original agreement. He responded “Okay.”

I told him I didn’t have any more time — I had already been working on his bathroom for two weeks without receiving the remaining payment.
As for the ceiling fan, I told him honestly that I couldn’t install it anymore. I had done everything he asked for, and even more, and helped him in every way I could. But I didn’t have the time or energy left to install the fan.

He replied, “If you can’t install the fan, then I’ll deduct $*** from what I owe you.”

    Later on, while the tiles were still fresh and hadn’t fully dried, he sent me photos on WhatsApp showing the tiles had shifted. It was clear that he had moved them himself before they dried ************* ** **** ** **** **** ***** *** * ******** **** ** ** ***** *** ** ** **** *** **** *** *** *** ** ** *** ******** **** *** ***** **** ** *** ******** **********

I bought tiles for the third time, again from my own pocket. While I was installing them, he asked me to continue and finish the wall all the way up to the ceiling and close it off. He said, “Since we’re redoing it anyway, please just finish it to the top.” Even though this wasn’t part of the original deal, I told him, “Of course,” because I didn’t want to upset him. I completed the job exactly how he wanted and tiled all the way up to the ceiling.

When it was time for payment, the client attempted to deduct $***, claiming I didn’t install the fan  even though I clearly told him I would do it for free, and I had sent him an email confirming that.
He also deducted $*** for cleaning, although he initially told me it would cost $**** and I agreed to cover that amount. Then, without explanation, he raised it to $****
Additionally, he claimed certain items were damaged in order to deduct more money, but I had already provided clear photo evidence that those items were broken before I started the work  which he even documented himself in videos and photos
In the end, I left the project at a loss. I paid $***** from my own pocket, and I have shared the invoices to prove that.

After all this, he refused to pay the balance. He accused me of causing damage that already existed, even though I have photo evidence from him proving it was there before. He also began posting negative comments on my business page, even though I had completed the job and paid over $***** from my own pocket.

    I have every receipt, photo, and message that proves my honesty and professionalism. *** ***** ** ******* *** ******** ****** ** **** *** **** ******

Thank you for your time and consideration.

    Complaint: ********

Response to Business Rebuttal – Declined
Thank you for the opportunity to respond.
I am declining the business's response for the following reasons:
False Claim of No Payment: Anthony claims he "never received a single dollar" and "worked for free." This is false. I paid him:
    $*** via e-transfer as a deposit
$*** in cash at his request
    $*** via e-transfer for unexpected insulation-related costs
I also personally purchased materials using my credit card totaling $********
These transactions are supported by receipts, e-transfer confirmations, and text communications. His claim of receiving only $*** is inconsistent with the documented financial records.
Substandard and Incomplete Work: The quality of the work was unacceptable:
Tile was installed unevenly, with varying thin-set thickness and dangerously protruding edges
Plumbing was incorrectly installed, resulting in water damage to my basement
A brand-new tub was chipped in two places
My existing vanity countertop was chipped and will need to be replaced
The job was left incomplete, with large visible defects and safety concerns remaining
Health and Safety Hazards: The contractor’s team cut tile inside my home without any dust containment. This caused significant dust to spread throughout the house, triggering respiratory issues for both myself and my daughter. I was forced to:
Pay $****** for professional duct and furnace cleaning
    Deep clean my entire home
Install a vapor barrier myself — which should have been done by the contractor from the outset
    Unprofessional Conduct: Throughout the project:
The crew refused to remove shoes in my home
Smoked cigarettes on-site and discarded butts in my yard and on the street
Brought a cigarette container into the house, which caused it to smell strongly of smoke
Left each day without properly cleaning up after themselves
    Additional Damages and Costs:
Construction Debris Left Behind: Anthony and his team abandoned the job and left the old tub and a large pile of construction scraps in my yard. I had to hire removal services at my own expense
Vanity Replacement: The damaged countertop is beyond repair and requires full replacement
Plumbing Repairs: The drains in my bathroom sink and tub were clogged with grout or thin-set and need to be replaced
Window Screen: A piece of my window screen was broken off and must be replaced
Failure to Complete and Walk-off: After multiple attempts to resolve the issues and even allowing Anthony to return and redo his work, the problems persisted. Eventually, Anthony stopped communicating and falsely claimed he was never paid. He walked off the job and left my bathroom in an unusable state.
Inaccurate and Misleading Statements: Anthony has attempted to misrepresent the facts by shifting blame for damages clearly caused during the renovation, and mischaracterizing our financial transactions and agreements. I have clear evidence (photos, videos, and messages) that contradict his claims.

    Conclusion:
This situation has caused me significant financial loss, emotional stress, and health concerns. I am seeking reimbursement for:
    The funds I paid to Anthony directly ($*** * **** * ****)
    Material costs ($********)
    Duct cleaning ($******)
Additional costs to dispose of debris, replace the damaged vanity, fix the plumbing, and replace the broken window screen. ($*****)

This is totaling an estimated $*********

This is excluding any compensation for the stress, nuisance, and disruption this situation has caused as well as the cost to full correct and complete the bathroom renovation.

This has been estimated to cost $****** by multiple reputable contractors.

    Anthony’s response shows a complete lack of accountability and an unwillingness to take responsibility for the damage and disruption he caused. I reject it in full *** **** *** *** ** **** **** ********* ** ****** ** **** ******* ***** **********
Thank you for your continued support and attention to this matter.

    Sincerely,

He’s claiming that I caused damage and that’s why he wants compensation. But today I’m showing proof — through the files and photos I’ve sent and that are included in the documentation — that all of these things were broken before I even started the job. I hadn’t even entered the house yet when those damages existed.

Now, I’ve finished the bathroom. He still owes me $****** He says he wants to deduct $*** for cleaning — I had no problem with that — so that leaves $******

So here’s my question: where is my money?

The bathroom is complete and fully installed. The things he’s claiming I broke — I’ve now shown through photos that they were already damaged. So again — where’s my money?

I even tried to speak with him on WhatsApp to settle things, to find a solution, but he responded saying: ‘If there’s garbage left over, throw it out yourself, and you should also pay for all the materials used in the bathroom.’

****** *** The bathroom is done. I finished the job. If you’re not happy with the work, bring in a third party to inspect it and tell us what’s wrong. You don’t just get to decide you’re not happy and not pay.

I did the work, so you’re supposed to pay me.
Instead of paying, you accuse me of causing damage — *** *** *** ***** ** **** *** the evidence shows all of it was already broken before.

From the very beginning, this whole thing was handled wrong. You were supposed to pay me upfront — but you didn’t have the money. You said you’d buy the materials on credit and pay me later. I trusted you, I agreed, and I did the work.

In total, you’ve only paid me $*** via transfer and $*** i. That’s it. I worked three full weeks — 17 days — and I completed your bathroom. When I finished, I asked for my money, and you responded with ‘damage’ claims.

Now those claims have been proven false. So let me ask you again —
Where is the $***** you still owe me?

    Business Response

At this point, I believe everything is clear. Corstin, who is accusing me, has claimed that I damaged several things — *** **** photo, taken after we entered the house and started the job, clearly shows the damage was already there before I began. He has documented his accusations against me through WhatsApp messages, claiming I broke things and therefore doesn’t want to pay me.

******** * ******* ****** *** **** I completed the bathroom job fully. I invested my time and money, and I haven’t been paid. He stated clearly that he won’t pay me because he claims I broke things, but now it’s clear that what he’s saying is completely false. ********** **** ******* ** ********** *** ***********

    * **** **** ******** ******* **** ** ** *** ***** ********. I hope this matter is taken seriously *** ******** ********* I’ve shown how transparent, honest, and committed I’ve been, even going out of pocket multiple times just to finish the job.

I also sent everything I spent on the project, and it’s clear what I invested. He accused me of not cleaning up after myself and claimed someone gave him an estimate that the cleanup would cost $***** but said if I did it myself, he’d deduct $***. **** ******* ***** **** **** ****** ** ****** **** *** **********
